New private-credit structures from Japanese banks
Six Japanese banks have agreed to jointly operate Japan Private Credit and establish an approximately ¥50 billion private-debt fund providing LBO loans in Japan.
Resona Bank, Saitama Resona Bank, Aozora Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Fukuoka Bank and Joyo Bank signed the agreement on 30 September. The fund will also provide insurers, pension funds and other institutional investors with access to domestic LBO-loan assets. The banks describe the longer-term objective as building a common platform supporting the LBO-loan market.
Separately, MUFG announced on 1 September that it had begun discussions with both BlackRock and Morgan Stanley Investment Management around open-platform private-credit structures. Both contemplate participation by institutional investors outside the respective partner groups in Japan-related private-credit opportunities.
